Professional Practicum

The internship of students in the profession is supported by the Internship Office of the University of West Attica (PADA) which maintains constant contact and cooperation with all parties involved and by the Internship Committee of the Department of Early Education and Care (ECEC) which is consists of faculty members of the Department. According to the Program of Studies the course “Internship in the Profession” is offered in the 7th or 8th Semester with code PRAK93. The course corresponds to twenty (20) credit hours and a workload of six hundred (600). 

The duration of the internship is two months within the 7th or 8th Semester. The requirements of the students in order to participate in the internship are: 

  1. The student must attend 7th, 8th or higher Semester 
  1. Have successfully completed two thirds (2/3) of the courses  
  1. Have successfully completed the prerequisite courses: 
  • Infant’s Education and Care II (PAI 07) 
  • Pedagogical Program and Citizenship Education (PAI 19) 
  • Early Interactions (PSYCH 22) 

During their training, the students actively participate in infant and toddler education and care, exercising the role of the Early Childhood Educator. The Internship program of the Department of Early Education and Care (ECEC) is an important and compulsory part of the education of students. It is developed and supervised by the Internship Committee of the Department. The Internship Committee cooperates with the Supervisor of each Internship Host Organization. 

 

The Internship is carried out in Early Childhood Education and Care Settings selected by the Department. More specifically:  

  • Municipality Centers providing Early Childhood Education and Care services 
  • Public institutions that have  Early Childhood Education and Care, departments 
  • Private sector bodies providing Early Childhood Education and Care 
  • Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) providing Early Childhood Care and Education 
  • At the Child protection Centre “Mitera” 

In the public sector the insurance policies for the involved students, are covered by the University of West Attica. In these institutions the Internship is unpaid.  

In the private sector the Internship is paid and the insurance and payment policies are under the auspices of the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF). For more information please contact http://praktiki.uniwa.gr/praktikiaskisi/ 

 

For more information and support, students can also contact Mrs. Barbara Aggeli who belongs to the faculty of the Department (ECEC) and is the head of the Internship Committee of the Department.  

In the framework of Erasmus program the students can contact Mrs. Maria Hatzigianni who is also a faculty member of the Department and is responsible for the Erasmus program. 

On dates designated by the Internship Committee, students are informed about the procedures foreseen and receive the necessary documents. Students are supported throughout the Internship with group or individual meetings. The presence of the students in these meetings is compulsory.
